Sunday Morning Classes

All classes welcome walk-ins anytime! For suggestions regarding which class to visit, contact Rev. Dianne Lawhorn, Pastor for Adult Faith Formation. Classes are held on Sundays at 9:30 a.m.

Adult Bible Study

A class of (mostly) couples and singles over 55 that focuses on video and discussion of the Old and New Testament using the Efird Bible Study Series and Adam Hamilton video studies. Room 216/218.

Bill Hight Class

A class of (mostly) senior adults that uses the International Bible Study series. This class is led by a teacher and
attracts those looking for solid Bible study, therefore becoming more intergenerational. Room 222.

Faith in Action

This small group of parents with children/teens focuses on a common interest in building Christian relationships,
healthy marriages, and Christ-centered families. Studies are topical and typically run 6 - 8 weeks. The group also
participates in mission projects and social activities. Room 213.

Life Application Class (A Reconciling Community: rmnetwork.org)

This group of individuals and couples, generally ages 45+, focuses on incorporating DUMC’s mission statement
into our daily lives using community and fellowship, overseas and local missions, and Bible and spiritual study.

Navigators

A class of (mostly) couples and singles over 55 that focuses on video and discussion of the Old and New Testament using the Efird Bible Study Series and Adam Hamilton video studies. Room 216/218.

Logos (A Reconciling Community: rmnetword.org)

Participants are generally 40+. Using formats such as video and/or sacred/contemporary/fictional writing, the
curriculum varies around Biblical, topical, and personal growth studies. This is a discussion driven class for
people looking to mature in their Christian discipleship. Room 209.

Shalom (A Reconciling Community: rmnetwork.org)

This class addresses a broad range of topics, usually relating to social justice, interfaith dialogue, and emerging
perspectives in Christian faith. Members volunteer to lead discussions that may be based on books, videos, or
guest speakers, and that reflect members’ diverse belief and opinions (theological, political, and otherwise).

Young Families

This class includes parents with young children (elementary and younger). They used DVD-based curriculum
with discussion. Room 215.

Intercessory Prayer Group

Intercessory prayer is prayer for others. An intercessor is one who takes the place of another or pleads another's case. One study Bible defines intercession as "holy, believing, persevering prayer whereby someone pleads with God on behalf of another or others who desperately need God's intervention." Film & Spirituality

Fourth Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. to view the movie; 12:30 p.m. to join the discussion

Prayer Band

Using a prayer guide in the convenience of your own home, commit to daily prayer for our program leaders and their ministries. Contact Dawne Kakitsis.

Prayer Shawls

First Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. in the Purcell Room. Contact Suzanne Carter for more information or First Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in Room 222. Contact Judy Martin for more information. The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a monthly gathering of women who knit, crochet, and bless the shawls and baptism blankets they make to be given out to anyone in need or at the baptism of a baby.

Companions in Christ

Thursdays from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at The Pines in the Marshall Room
The Bible, fellowship, and friendship bring together this study group of intergenerational women who want to become more like Jesus. Contact Marsha Brodsky. 

Seekers of the Spirit

Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. - noon in Room 215
All ages are invited to join this group of women for Bible and spiritual study and growth. Group members work together to choose compelling curriculum. Contact Nancy Sinclair

Sisters

Wednesdays from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the Congregational Care House (262 South Street)
A Bible study for women who want to integrate teachings of the Bible into their everyday relationships, decisions, and challenges. Many in the group have children in choir during the same time that night, but all women are welcome. Contact Jennifer Sherrill. 

Christian Women's Outdoor Trek Group

Meet monthly; locations vary
A group of women ages 50+ who love the outdoors and want to refresh and renew their mind, body, and spirit by reconnecting to nature through a variety of activities. Contact

Deborah Group

A group for single women of all ages whose focus is providing opportunities to gather for fun, fellowship, friendship, and support. Contact Janet Makee.

United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women (UMW) is the largest denominational faith organization for women, and all women of the church are automatically members.

Abundant Life Circle

Meets the second Tuesday of the month • 7:00—9:00 p.m. • Room 218

The Abundant Life Circle welcomes women of all ages to join us as we focus on educating ourselves about missions and
executing projects that support women, children and youth. We strive not only to serve others but also to fellowship
with each other as we endeavor to grow in our faith.

Carrie Robinson Circle

Meets twice a month (one Thursday morning and one Monday evening; dates and times vary)

This circle supports the mission of the UMW through fellowship and service activities. Speaker topics focus on issues
facing mothers of elementary and middle school children. In addition to circle meetings, this group offers a book club
and a garden club.

Christian Mothers United (CMU) Circle

Meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month • 9:30—11:30 a.m. • Fellowship Hall

Moms of infants through school-age children who come together for fellowship, education, and mission work while
striving to raise Christian families. Group offers ways for mothers and children to get involved in playgroups, social
activities, community outreach, and much more. Childcare provided.

Joy Circle

Meets the fourth Monday night of the month

The Joy Circle is a service circle of active women of all ages whose mission field is the town of Mooresville.
We welcome all women who share this focus and desire to join in fellowship with each other.

Sharing Circle

Meets the second Thursday of the month • Noon - 2:00 pm. • Bags of Hope Distribution Center

The Sharing Circle is made up of women, mostly with children aged high school and beyond, that have a strong desire
for missions and fellowship. We partner with Bags of Hope (filling backpacks with food for area children) and volunteering there on a monthly basis. We will periodically plan social events for our members and let members know of other
events that might interest them both at DUMC and outside of DUMC as well.

Mizpah Circle

Meets the first Thursday of the month • 10:30 a.m. • Room 222

The Mizpah circle is a group of women over 50 and we have monthly programs centering around missions here and
abroad. We help support projects locally that mostly involve the health and well being of women and children.

Founders Circle

Meets the first Tuesday of the month • 11:00 a.m. • Room 216/218

The Founders Circle is a fellowship group and our monthly program typically features a guest speaker.
Everyone brings a bag lunch and we eat together around noon. Drink and dessert is provided by our
members. Our ages start at 60.
